The Irvine Program in Law and Graduate Studies combines the requirements for the J.D. at the University of California, Irvine School of Law with the requirements for existing Ph.D. and Master’s Degrees at the University. Its purpose is to enable individuals to obtain the two degrees simultaneously and in less time than it would take to pursue each separately. The program seeks exceptional students and is designed for only the most elite scholars/lawyers seeking this specialized training. Prior to Graduate Council review, proposals for a concurrent degree program with the School of Law must be submitted to the Director of the Law and Graduate Studies Program, Shauhin Talesh, at stalesh@law.uci.edu. Once the proposal has been vetted by the School of Law, the following items are required prior to Graduate Council review:
- Degree Modification form and the required materials
- Letter of support from the Dean or Associate Dean endorsing the concurrent program
- Letter of support from the Director of the Law and Graduate Studies Program
Complete proposals should be emailed in one pdf to the Graduate Council Analyst, Thao Nguyen, at thao.nguyen@uci.edu. To view the Graduate Council meeting dates and deadlines for submission click here.
